How to Celebrate Holidays Around Your Pets

Celebrating and participating in celebrating the various holidays over the course of the year is one of the best things that we humans do in our lives. It gives us a chance, for one brief moment, to just be able to relax and forget about our troubles. However, these parties can often be loud, lively, and very overwhelming to our furry companions. That’s why it’s important to be able to plan your holiday parties and celebrations with their needs in mind. But how can you accomplish this?

Plan With Them!

If your animal is fond of people, or at least indifferent, it may be easier than you’d think to plan your party with them. You can dress your dog up in a cute, holiday themed outfit, have them deliver presents, or even bake holiday-themed treats! The possibilities are endless with enough creativity.

The reality of the situation may be that your animal is simply indifferent to having lots of noise and people around. Every animal is different. If your dog thrives on having endless attention and pets, invite them to party with you! They’ll love every second. If your cat prefers to just wander into a different room, let them do that and go about their business. Think about what your pets would prefer, and look to build your party to fit with their strengths.

Plan Around Them

Sometimes it’s simply unavoidable that you’re going to have disturbances that your pets won’t like. Whether it’s having a lot of family members over, or simply getting rowdy with your friends, we can’t be quiet and courteous all the time. If you know that you’re activities may disturb your pets, it’s important to lay out a plan to minimize their stress and keep them as safe and comfortable as possible.

If you have a pet that doesn’t get along with people too well, you may want to consider closing a part of your house off from the party and letting your pet sit in relative silence and isolation. It may seem a bit cruel, but it’s actually markedly better than stressing both you and your pet out trying to keep them comfortable around a lot of people. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that you check-in on them frequently and make sure they’re well fed and have bathroom access.

If closing part of your house isn’t an option, you can always see if someone can look after them for the duration of your party. If your neighbor has an affinity for animals, maybe asking them for some help could prove to be useful! If you can’t find anyone to look after them, however, you might want to consider boarding them as well. If you do end up doing this, be sure to give them plenty of love and treats when you pick them back up. It’s only fair.

Making Your Environment Pet-Friendly

Whether or not you decide to include your pet in your party or not is up to you, but if you’re a pet owner, it’s important to remember to make your celebrations pet-friendly. For instance, if you’re decorating for a Christmas get together, make sure that all the stockings are high enough so tat your pet can’t accidentally knock them over or eat through them.

There are a lot of ways to make your celebrations pet-friendly and make them comfortable. And if they make it through just fine, you should reward them with some delicious treats.
